I arrived this morning after a 12 hour flight from London (aside: South African Airlines served lamb on the plane…). The weather is warm enough, probably 60, although it’s a little overcast, which is apparently normal for winter days in Cape Town. It is strange to have flown from a very green summer to winter; teh leaves are gone off the trees and it just feels wintery despite the warmth. I was able to meet all of the SAEP staff as soon as I arrived. Apparently every Friday the entire staff meets at Norton’s house and someone cooks. The other volunteers are from all over. One is English, another German, and several from the US. It will be a fun few weeks! I am now at the offices, trying to stave off my jet lag. If I can stay awake at least for a few more hours than I’ll be all set!
I hope that this afternoon I can explore the Observatory (a neighborhood in Cape Town) and get a better sense of the place.
Well, was it Twickenhamians or Twickenhamites?? : )
